Experts previously believed that after a given point in life, your brain could no longer change or develop further. Now they know this isn't true. With a bit of time and patience, you can rewire your brain, which may help with certain mental health symptoms and protect against cognitive decline. 

Rewiring your brain might sound pretty complicated, but it’s absolutely something you can do at home.


Rewire your brain for creativity.

Research from 2015 suggests art forms such as drawing and painting directly benefit your brain by enhancing creativity and improving cognitive abilities.

There are 4 Ways to Rewire Your Brain for Creative Thinking.
  1. Turn off your multi-tasking autopilot.
  2. Do something familiar in an unfamiliar way.
  3. Listen, ask question, and play. 
  4. Grow your resilience muscle. 
Creativity is like strength.

 

To turn creative thinking into a habit, try the following things:

  1. Let your mind wander. Challenge yourself to think up lots of ideas around a topic or problem at the same time. 
  2. Reduce distraction.
  3. Improve your capacity for selective attention by practicing mindfulness. 
  4. Read a novel or see a show.

How do you rewire your brain to be positive?

  1. Release your inner negativity.
  2. Retrain your brain to flip negatives into positives. 
  3. Learn the art of pivoting from negative thoughts.
  4. Create a cycle of joy by paying it forward.

How long does it take to rewire your brain?

In order to rewire your brain for the long term, you must practice visualization for at least six weeks for just five to 10 minutes a day. If you're busy during the day, try doing the practice before going to bed or first thing in the morning.
