With well-known apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm already dominating India's UPI payments market, WhatsApp is also in the process of popularizing its payments feature with users to join the list.
WhatsApp Payments is one of the latest features of WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook and has been a popular messaging app around the world. Even though millions of people in India use WhatsApp for messaging reasons, no one uses its payments option very much. So WhatsApp continues to engage in efforts to encourage customers to use its payments feature.
As part of this, it has been reported that WhatsApp may bring cashback offers similar to its competitor Google Pay service. According to the WhatsApp features tracker (WABetaInfo), WhatsApp will soon offer cashback offers for UPI payments made through WhatsApp. However, the feature is still in the developing stage and it is also said to take a few more weeks for it to reach Beta Testers.
In early 2018, WhatsApp launched UPI-based payments. However, the service was in beta version for a few years, while WhatsApp got all the necessary permissions to offer UPI services. Following this, last year, the WhatsApp payments feature was introduced for all users. However, this new feature of WhatsApp, which has millions of Indian users, is yet to be received in the country.
Now that WhatsApp will launch cashback coupons to compete with competitors like Google Pay and Paytm, Facebook also revealed that the offer feature is expected to be included during a series of WhatsApp version updates, adding a screenshot of the upcoming feature to the Social Media post.
That screenshot is "Get cashback on your next payment" and "Tap to get started." This service is only for customers in India. Payments of Rs.10 or more may be eligible for cashback vouchers.
It is noteworthy that WhatsApp is in the process of popularizing its payments feature with users to join the list, with well-known apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm already dominating India's UPI payments market.
