Koo app: The Indian alternative to Twitter

Koo app

The Koo App has achieved phenomenal growth in the last year, crossing 1 crore users.

The 'Koo App' developed under Make India is emerging as a rival to Twitter in India. Twitter, which is a globally popular social media site, is dissatisfied with the new social media policy introduced by the Centre. Twitter continued to refrain from accepting India's social media policy, even though it continued to be the deadline to operate in India only if it adopted it.

Pointing to the security of the country and the personal information security of the people, the Centre categorically stated that new rules should already be made. Union ministers levelled open criticism of the matter on Twitter. Many have requested the use of the 'Koo' app instead of Twitter. This led to a rapid rise in the number of users of the Koo app across the country. Launched in 2020, the Koo app has completed nearly 15 months.

About 1 crore users have been downloading and using the Koo app in this short span of time. As an alternative to Twitter, Koo has been the platform for openly presenting ideas. Pleased with this, the Founders of The Koo App said that their primary goal is to reach more than 10 crore users by the end of next year. Speaking on the issue, Abramea Radhakrishnan, co-founder of the Koo app, said he was happy that one crore users have downloaded the Koo app.

He said the market trend favored the Koo app and said efforts would be made to sustain the growth. Radhakrishnan, who says that as far as India is concerned, less than 2 percent use microblogging sites, including Twitter, and said they are determined to change the market gap to their advantage and reach out to the rest of the Koo app. About 85 percent of downloads have been carried out since Last February alone.

Radhakrishnan said further steps would be taken so that 70 crore users of social media in India could use the Koo app. The Koo app operates in more than 8 regional languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and Punjab. He also expressed confidence that users will increasingly use the Koo app as there is a use of regional languages. Radhakrishnan said that if their target goes as planned, 500 million users will come in the next few years.
